I'm glad you asked! As Pastor Erik has been preaching about Adventures in Neighboring, he has been reminding us that God has called us to "love your neighbor as yourself." Jesus’ call to love our neighbors can feel overwhelming. The truth is, it doesn’t have to be complicated. BLESS my 5 is a simple way to begin the practice of loving your five closest neighbors. It is as easy as 1, 2, 3.

1. Who are my 5?

Start by filling out or downloading your "My 5" card here. Then write the names of the five neighbors who live closest to you. If you’re not sure what their names are, add a simple descriptor to distinguish them from the rest of your neighbors until you learn their names.

Add some relevant information about the family. Include information about their occupations, hometowns, and favorite hobbies – anything to help you remember.

Post your My Five somewhere visible – on a mirror, window or refrigerator – for a daily reminder to engage with your neighbors.

2. Make  a plan to bless your neighbors!

Use the BLESS practices and explore how you and your family can make a difference in the lives of those living right next door.

Begin - with prayer.

Listen - to your neighbors when you interact with them.

Eat - a meal together.

Serve - them during times of need.

Story – Learn their story, share yours, and share Jesus' story.

(Each letter in B.L.E.S.S will link to a short video clip. Thanks Oak Hills Church!)

3. Share how GOd is working through you!

As you get to know your neighbors, update your My Five card with information that will help you BLESS them uniquely. Life-change starts at your front door. Don’t worry about being the “right” person to BLESS your neighbors – God has you where you are for a reason. That’s the only qualification you need to begin living a life intent on answering God’s call to love your neighbors as yourself.
